As you will have seen from my previous post, I hosted a bloggers event at The Lexicon last month. They kindly gave me a gift card for me to pick my favourite summer holiday capsule wardrobe pieces from their range of shops to present in my style talk. So, I went shopping with my holiday in mind... aka, preparing for the heat!

The aim was to show how a couple of items can be mixed and matched to create several outfits (following the capsule wardrobe style!). Firstly, it's far better for the bank balance and it also takes hassle out of dressing knowing you don't need separate items for every outfit you wear - especially on holiday when you're limited for space.

I love a denim shirt, they are so versatile. As you can see I have tied it as a crop and teamed with the H&M stripe shorts, or you could use it as a cover up at the beach, layer it with a cami like the New Look one above or take it up a level and pair with a leather skirt. The options are endless and I would definitely recommend having one in your wardrobe - or if quite not your taste.. a denim jacket is just as good!

The H&M monochrome shorts were a bargain at £9.99, again perfect to wear at the beach or to keep cool. Just love a beetlejuce stripe! The bardot linen embroidered blouse was from Dorothy Perkins (just shows it's worth shopping everywhere!) and well, who says print clashing is hard? This is an easy way to combine two prints without looking like a walking rainbow!

One thing I noticed whilst shopping is that I had stuck to a very neutral theme unintentionally, I love a bit of colour so this River Island dress was the perfect addition. Whilst sticking to neutrals is great, especially when it comes to a capsule wardrobe, for me, I think you can't go wrong with adding a pop of colour. I had tried this River Island dress on several weeks before and since my new favourite style is wrap dresses (they suit practically every body shape!) and the highstreet has so many gorgeous styles it was a no brainer. They are cool and easy to wear so ideal for hot summer days & evenings. Again, a style that can be worn with trainers or dressed up with some wedges for an evening.

A white cami taken up a notch? Count me in. Buttons are everywhere at the moment and I am loving the trend! It goes without saying, a white top of any kind is as versatile as you're going to get.

Last but not least, the accessories! I have not stopped wearing these Accessorize silver and snake print sandals, they are comfy and stylish so basically the best buy!! I also purchased a pair of plain black Havaianas, because everyone needs a simple pair of flip flops to wear at the beach or when pottering round the house. Another Accessorize buy, was a pineapple print 'washbag' aka place for all the essentials so they don't fall out the beach bag I am yet to buy.. (a straw bag is calling my name!) or of course to use on the plane, either way a pouch that fits everything in is always going to be my best friend.

So there you have it, an overview of my summer picks from The Lexicon! Happy shopping..
